Topkapi Palace :
Topkapi Palace was built by Sultan Mehmed II after he conquered Constantinople in 1453. The first palace constructed by him at the site of the Istanbul University, soon proved inadequate to meet the demands of Sultan`s administration. Thus, he ordered another palace to be constructed at the site of the Byzantine acropolis, with the Golden Horn, the Seraglio and the Sea of Marmara encircling it. Today the Topkapi Palace is still a remarkable sight with its minarets, turrets and domes. It covers an enormous area of 173 acres which houses garden courtyards, kitchens, armory, workshops, baths, offices, halls and residential areas. Once it was a small city wherethousands of people lived. As anorder of Ataturk (founder of modern Turkey) in 1923, it was renovated once againto convert it to a museum that has today become one of Istanbul`s most popular sights. Then after completing your visit, you will take a short distance walk to Hagia Sophia.

The Hagia Sophia :
The meaning of this extraordinary building is “Holy Wisdom”. Documents indicate that the first Hagia Sophia was built by Emperor Constantius, son of
Emperor Constantinos I, and was opened for services in 360 AD. Although very little is known about this Church, it is assumed that it was a basilica-type structure with a rectangular floor plan, circularapse and timbered roof. During the rebellion of Monophysites in 532, Hagia Sophia was destroyed along withmany other important buildings. In the same year Emperor Justinianus ordered to build up new and the most spectacular church. It took five years, ten months and four days, from February 23rd 532 to December 27th 537. When the Sultan Mehmed II conquered Constantinople in 1453, the Church was converted into a mosque,a place of Islamic worship. To begin with, Turks preserved the frescoes and mosaic figures of Christian saintswhich decorated the walls. However, in the 16th century, these were completely covered by plaster, sincethe Islamic code forbids figural representation. In 1926, the government of the new Republic of Turkey, appointed a technical commission to investigate the architectural and static state of the building thoroughly. According to the commission's report, the foundation of the structure rested solidly on a bed of rock.Following Kemal Ataturk's orders, Hagia Sophia was converted into a museum on February 1st 1935. Ataturk visited the museum a few days later, on February 6th, 1935. After your visit to Hagia Sophia, you will take a short distance walk to get to Sultanahmet Mosque.

The Blue Mosque :
because of more than 20000 marvelous turquoise blue Iznik tiles used for interior decoration. The Blue Mosque was built at the behest of Sultan Ahmed I - a very religious minded king who becamea monarch at the very young age of fourteen. In his religious fervor, he decided to construct a mosque to surpassthe Ayasofya in its glory. He selected the site of the Great Palace of Byzantium for construction. This lies on the southeastern side of the
Hippodrome and is a stone`s throw away from the Ayasofya. He entrusted this challenging work to the poet architect Sedefkar Mehmet Ada. Mehmet Ada began his workin 1609 and it took him seven long years to complete it. This great work was finally completed in 1616. When you come out of Blue Mosque;cross the road to get to Hipodromme.

The Hippodrome :
Hippodrome, the center of sportive(chariot races, athletics) events and political activities of the old city where held. Egyptian Obelisk,Serpentine Column, Constantine Column and German Fountain of Wilhelm II are the decorating monuments. At the end of the day after you are seated in your comfortable bus, you will be led to Grand Bazaar.

The Grand Bazaar:
The Grand Bazaar (Turkish: Kapalicarsi, meaning Covered Bazaar) in Istanbul is one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, with more than 64 covered streets and over 4,400 shops which attracts between 250,000 and 400,000 visitors daily. Opened in 1461, it is well known for its jewelry, pottery, spice, and carpet shops. Many of the stalls in the bazaar are grouped by the type of goods, with special areas forleather coats, gold jewelry and the like. The bazaar contains two bedestens (domed masonry structures builtfor storage and safe keeping), the first of which was constructed between 1455 and 1461 by the order of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror. The bazaar was vastly enlarged in the 16th century, during the reign of Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent, and in 1894 underwent a major restoration following an earthquake.
